Wellbeing Quiet Day
The aim of the retreat is to find within our own lives that contemplative space in which we can listen and grow. This will be a silent led retreat with short addresses and prayer time - a meditation on meeting God in our everyday lives and the lives of one another. (Chelmsford Diocesan Clergy & LLMs may apply to use their CMD grants)
Richard Carter is Associate Vicar for Mission at St Martin-in-the-Fields in Trafalgar Square. His ministry includes working closely those who are homeless and refugees and the pastoral care of the many people who come through the open doors of this church on the edge of London's most public Square.
Richard is the founder of the Nazareth Community- whose members gather from everyday life to seek God in contemplation and to learn to live generously. Before coming to St Martin's Richard was a member of the Melanesian Brotherhood and Anglican order, living a life of simplicity, service and prayer in the South Pacific. He is the author of The City is My Monastery: A Contemporary Rule of Life, Canterbury Press 2019. Richard leads many retreats and quiet days and is a regular contributor to BBC Radio 4's Daily Service.
This quiet day ‘Finding Nazareth’ will introduce us to some of the themes of Richard’s book, and the simple contemporary rule of the Nazareth Community. We know little of what happened to Jesus at Nazareth, but we too need to find this Nazareth time – the place of formation, space and stillness that we need to let the seed that is planted find the soil it needs to grow within us.
This event is open to everyone. (If you would like to combine this with an overnight stay please contact The Retreat House office direct 01245 237251)
