Did Judas deliberately set up the arrest and betrayal of Jesus?
- Holy Week Quiet Day
Wednesday in Holy Week, sometimes called Spy Wednesday, is traditionally the day when the Western church chants the Tenebrae. Tenebrae means 'darkness' and the service is very sombre. For our day we will gradually be led to the Tenebrae with meditations on the part Judas played and with plenty of reflective silence in the house. The day will aim to prepare us for the arrest, trial and death of Jesus - leading us dramatically towards the lighting of the Paschal Light at the Easter Ceremonies.
Led by Rev Canon John Howden. John was born of missionary parents in Iran. Trained as an architect in London and became a scenic artist and costume designer in the professional theatre. Offered for Ordination and after 2 curacies joined the BBC as a journalist, broadcaster and trainer of radio staff. Came back to parish ministry for 19 years that included 9 years as Warden of Pleshey. In retirement he makes films, paints and draws, loves jazz and red wine, the company of family and friends and a good laugh.
This event is open to everyone. (If you would like to combine this with an overnight stay please contact The Retreat House office direct 01245 237251)
