Living as well as possible - in Act 3

  • The Diocesan House Of Retreat The Street CM3 1HA United Kingdom (map)

A wellbeing retreat

Jesus didn’t use the word ‘retirement’ and the period sometimes called ‘the third age’ can seem at the same time both attractive and scary. This day retreat led by Florence and Clive Morton is for those at any stage who want to think about life in this ‘third age’, beyond paid employment or ministry. It is open to all. (Chelmsford Diocesan Clergy & LLMs may apply to use their CMD grants)

There will be several short talks with solitary time afterwards for people to pray, reflect and journal on their own, and also time for some interaction and sharing. The retreat will be using music, and songs and poetry and prose, and the day will be held within simple short acts of worship. There will be the opportunity for a short individual conversation with one of the leaders if you wished.

Florence taught English in a Scottish comprehensive school for 16 years and then worked in the voluntary sector in the 1990s. In 2001 she had a couple of strokes that changed her life. After recovering, she trained as a spiritual director. Florence and Clive led a double life in Italy for about 20 years where they ran Umbrian Retreats from 2010 to 2021. Florence describes herself and Clive as Anglo-Baptists!

Clive is a Professor Emeritus at Middlesex University and Canon Emeritus at Peterborough Cathedral. He was chairman of NHS Trusts both at Gateshead and Peterborough, and was formerly Human Resources Director at Anglian Water Services, Personnel Director for Rolls-Royce Industrial Power Group, Northern Electric and Komatsu UK. He is a civil engineer and holds a PhD in industrial relations from the London School of Economics and was appointed OBE for his contribution to business and the community in 1992. He has published four books: Becoming World Class (1994); Beyond World Class (1998); Leading HR (2001); and By the Skin of Our Teeth (2003). He is active with churches together and inter-faith bodies in Peterborough and Vice-Chair of Cambridgeshire Workplace Chaplaincy. He has worked on projects considering faith in the workplace, on the experiences of Christians who were not ordained, with the theologians John Rackley and Paul Ballard, and has had a life-long interest in the ministry of reconciliation.

This event is open to everyone. (If you would like to combine this with an additional overnight stay please contact The Retreat House office direct 01245 237251)
